LTjg Richard “Hondo” Been, USN

 Hailing from Hondo, Texas, Richard Been was lost at sea on August 25, 1975, after a training accident in an F-4 off the coast of Florida.  After a stalwart football career, Hondo joined the rugby team and quickly became the starting 8 man on the very talented 1972 team.  Hondo was a force to be reckoned with and became a key player in leading the team to a 34-1 record, winning the Eastern Conference Championship and finishing #2 in the country after a close loss to Palmer College in the National Championship.
