Outstanding Coach
Coach Flanagan is originally from Pittsfield, MA. A full time high school teacher, Coach Flanagan became Navy’s head rugby coach in 1991. Mike coached Navy for the next 27 years, accumulating over 450 wins and led Navy to 13 National Semi-Finals, including playing in 1994 National Championship game. During this incredible stretch, 47 of Flanagan’s players were selected as Collegiate Rugby All-Americans. He was a catalyst in establishing the Navy Rugby Excellence Fund and helped spearhead the efforts to build the Prusmack Rugby Complex. Coach Flanagan’s leadership and coaching ability established Navy Rugby as an East Coast powerhouse and a perennial National Contender. In 2023 Coach Flanagan was inducted into the USA Rugby Hall of Fame.
